About Us
The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy (PVPLC) was founded in 1988 by a group of concerned area residents as a non-profit, non-political, public benefit 501(c)(3) corporation. Our mission is to preserve undeveloped land in perpetuity as open space for historical, educational, ecological, recreational and scenic purposes.
Since its founding, the PVPLC has successfully preserved nearly 1400 acres of Peninsula open space. We work cooperatively with cities, property owners and environmental groups, locating funds for purchasing land, providing tax benefits for land donation, restoring habitat, and promoting the conservation of natural open space. Our service area covers the geographic Palos Verdes Peninsula, including the cities of Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates and San Pedro.
Today we actively manage over 1,000 acres of preserved land that includes:
- White Point Nature Preserve in San Pedro
- Portuguese Bend Nature Preserve in Rancho Palos Verdes
- Linden H. Chandler Preserve in Rolling Hills Estates
- George F Canyon Preserve and Nature Center in Rolling Hills Estates
Through our Stewardship Program, we work to restore native habitat on these properties and protect native species such as the California gnatcatcher and Palos Verdes blue butterfly. We also conduct an Education Program that includes monthly nature walks for adults and a third-grade program that teaches students about their local environment and brings them to natural open space near their schools. We also offer programs that encourage science-based research in natural areas by high school and college students.
One of the primary goals of the organization is to see the Portuguese Bend area preserved in perpetuity as a public nature preserve, providing access to over 20 miles of trails, protection for rare and threatened wildlife, and outstanding recreational and educational opportunities for many user groups.

Where is Palos Verdes Peninsula?
Palos Verdes Peninsula is approximately 15 miles south of Los Angeles airport. It is bordered on the west and south by the Pacific Ocean, and on the north and east by greater Los Angeles and the Los Angeles and Long Beach Harbors.
Part of the original Spanish land grant to Juan Jose Dominguez in 1784, it remains an area of uncommon natural beauty. To truly enjoy the Palos Verdes Peninsula, join the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy on one of our monthly nature walks. The walks are free. See the complete schedule of the Nature Walks.
