Community Preserves Upper Filiorum!

Thanks to the contributions of over 700 supporters who gave generously Acquisition and Restoration Campaign, the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy and the City of Rancho Palos Verdes acquired the Upper Filiorum property before a December 31, 2009 escrow deadline. The California State Coastal Conservancy provided significant grant funding, which established the foundation for the acquisition of this strategically important parcel connecting existing saved land into a contiguous 950 acre nature preserve. It is the culmination of a 21 year effort to preserve open space on the Peninsula. The land managed by the PVPLC now encompasses 1600 acres of spectacular beauty on the Peninsula.

The $1 million goal of the Acquisition and Restoration Campaign for the acquisition, incorporation of the new land into the Preserves and acceleration of the restoration of the burned areas caused by the recent fire, has also been achieved.

We are also so very grateful to the many supporters who contributed to the on-going operating costs of the Conservancy during the campaign period.

Many thanks to all who have worked so hard in making this vision come to life, there is much reason to celebrate this important moment for conservation in our community.
