Other Committees

The Land Conservancy needs support from the community in many ways. There are many people in this community who can contribute to our work. Whether they have a few hours or lots of volunteer time, we have a place for them in our organization. Below are just a few of the ways:

Capital Campaign Committee

This committee will work with to the community to raise the $6 million that is needed to make the Portuguese Bend Nature Preserve a reality. Members are community leaders, people with access to funding; those who want to play a key role in preserving the quality of life on the Peninsula. Members are

Finance

This Board-led committee reviews the financial operations of the organization, reports to the Board; reviews budget after ED and Treasurer have prepared draft; reviews investments, creates investment policy for additional endowment funds, reviews financing options for Portuguese Bend acquisition effort. It meets during the budget process and as needed. Members are currently being sought with financial, accounting, legal and real estate expertise;

Personnel

The Board-led committee reviews the employee manual and policies, assists Executive Director with personnal matters as appropriate; meets yearly and as needed. Members are currently being sought with human resources expertise.

Steering Committees

  • Chandler - Members will review work to be done on the preserve, and may provide volunteer and other support. Members are currently being sought who live near or use the Preserve.

  • Forrestal - Committee reviews work to be done on the Forrestal Preserve; established in conjunction with the City of RPV, membership opportunities open once per year, including early in 2005.

  • George F Canyon - Members will review ongoing activities as well as proposals for changes to the Center and the Preserve. Assistance is needed to determine how to deal with the proposed significant reduction in funding for the Center from the City. Members are currently being sought for this committee.

  • Lunada Canyon - Members will review ongoing activities as well as proposals for changes to the Preserve and may provide volunteer or other support. Members of this committee are currently being sought.

  • White Point - Members will review ongoing activities as well as proposals for changes to the preserve. This committee is established by the Conservancy and approved by the City of Los Angeles. Membership opportunities will be available in the summer of 2005.

Outreach/Marketing Committee

This committee reviews all of the programs and material of the organization for appropriateness, effectiveness and quality. It works with the Office Manager and Executive Director. It meets on at least a quarterly basis to review the newsletter, more often if necessary.

Community Relations Committee

This committee advises the Executive Director (ED) on community relations matters, reviews politically sensitive informational documents, writes letters to the Editor, speak for the PVPLC in the community, builds support in the community. It meets as needed.

Community Advisory Board

This committee provides general community support; members may be called upon to assist with tasks on a voluntary basis. It will have a special meeting once per year.

Scientific Advisory Board

This committee provides scientific advice about the work of the Land Conservancy; serves to bring awareness of the preserves and the possibilities for research; and may make connections that make internships possible.
